Weekends

There are a couple of things you can count on in the Smith household when it comes to “Five o’clock world” on Fridays: it’s time for a weekend mood and a weekend mode! Our mood? Relaxation and decompression. Our Mode? Second gear and a noticeable slow down.

There’s a shared sense of relief and liberation for Harper, Brady and me that daily school schedules, and weekly meetings and appointments can be put on the back burner. (The only one sticking to any type of routine is Holt; food and sleep aren’t up for debate for this baby!) The weekends mean lazing around with no hustle and bustle, no getting to school on time, and no set agenda.

The weekends mean lazing around with no hustle and bustle, no getting to school on time, and no set agenda. No offense to the weekend warriors, but staying in our pjs longer, snuggling on the couch, reading, enjoying walks in the neighborhood, having a late breakfast, and just hanging out together is our preferable M.O. The weekends are about refueling ourselves together.

I saw a comment recently that most people spend five out of seven days wishing it were another day. I can’t help but wonder if those five days aren’t Monday through Friday while wishing for Saturday and Sunday!

We feel the same way in our house. We love lazy mornings in our pj’s. I love my job, but I do often find myself wishing it were the weekend. I want my kids all to myself.

I so agree weekends are such a great time to just relax and enjoy family!

I’m so glad to see people taking it easy a couple days a week. These days, people are more into technology, having kids join many sporting events after school- I firmly believe its great for kids to just be kids- take walks, ride bikes, lounge on the couch- No appointments, no games to attend etc…Good article.

What a cutie! I love lazy weekends, sometimes you just have to remind yourself to slow down and enjoy it!

Tiffani,

You are correct its important for families to refuel during the weekends, slow it down a bit, relax and enjoy one another. I live in D.C. and life here is a constant busy school students get home around 8-9 pm and still need to have dinner, during the weekends you are always running here or there and pretty soon they are raised and out of the house and your left looking in the mirror wondering what happened. Love to see that its important to you and your family. Never lose that. Your children will thank you.
